Water From Air

Why should we harvest fog to collect water?

Fog harvesting is a solution to successful reforestation, trees need water and in dry but foggy climates, fog nets provide a viable water source.

Water Crisis In The Canary Islands

Over tourism and historical deforestation have created a water crisis on the Canary Islands. Lanzorote is fast becoming a desert, with lack of tree cover, soil erosion is a real issue, and the islands proximaty to the Sahara with high temperatures and heat waves, is contributing to high evaporation rates, soil erosion & desertification, impacting the local population and biodiversity.

Our Plan To Fully Restore The Ancient Laurel Forests

The extinct forest of Mt. Haria, over centuries of deforestation, the land has become dry & desertified, soil erosion is a huge issue and lack of a sustainable water source. This is an extreme example of how deforestation can change the local climate & ecology. By using fog net technology we can bring back the ancient laurel cloud forests that produces & holds an abundance of water, stops soil erosion & increase biodiversity. By planting laurel trees near the fog net sites we have a better chance of reforestation success, since the fog nets will bring water to the reforestation site.

Why Laurel Forests Are So Important

Laurel forests are a type of subtropical forest found in areas with high humidity and relatively stable, mild temperatures. The forest is characterized by broadleaf tree species with evergreen, glossy and elongated leaves.

Laurel Forests play a fundamental role in ecosystems by conserving water and then releasing it as rain and ever-flowing rivers. In modern times, water from the forests has been channeled to hydropower stations and for human use in towns. The water is also used by farmers to irrigate crops. The laurel trees have fragrant leaves which are used in cooking, its wood for skewers and its berries for making oil for treating skin diseases.

In addition to all these benefits to human beings, the forest serves as a perfect habitat for hundreds of species of flora and fauna, most notably, members of the laurel family.
